Tips for Choosing the Perfect Maryland Outdoor Wedding Venue
When it comes to choosing between Maryland outdoor wedding venues, there are a few key factors to consider. As you begin, consider these helpful tips for finding the outdoor venue that perfectly captures your vision.
Vision
First and foremost, think about the overall ambiance and setting that you envision for your big day. Are you dreaming of a relaxed and romantic atmosphere? Or perhaps a more formal and elegant affair? Understanding the mood you want to create will help narrow down your options.
Size
Another important aspect to consider is the size and capacity of the venue. Make sure that the space can comfortably accommodate your guest list, including any additional vendors or entertainment. Unlike a DJ, a band requires more floor space.
Restrictions
As you explore different Maryland outdoor wedding venues, inquire about any restrictions or regulations that may exist. Some venues may have limitations on the type of decorations (candles!) or noise level allowed, while others may have no limitations at all. Exclusive preferred vendors are also common, which can impact your overall cost. Understanding these restrictions ahead of time will help you plan accordingly and avoid any last-minute surprises.
Accessibility
Accessibility and convenience are also important considerations. Think about the distance and ease of travel for both you and your guests. If you have guests who require special accommodations, such as wheelchair accessibility or nearby lodging, it’s essential to choose a venue that can meet these needs.
Budget
Budget is another (obvious) vital factor to keep in mind. Before you tour, determine how much you are willing to spend on your wedding venue and stick to that budget. Outdoor venues may come with additional costs such as tent rentals, so be sure to factor those in when making your decision.
Indoor Options
One often overlooked but crucial factor is the weather. While outdoor weddings can be incredibly beautiful, they also come with the risk of unpredictable weather conditions. Make sure to choose a venue that offers a backup plan you love in case of rain or extreme temperatures. This could be a covered outdoor area or an indoor space that can be transitioned in case of inclement weather.
Instincts
Lastly, don’t forget to trust your instincts. When you visit a potential venue, pay attention to how it makes you feel. Does it align with your vision and bring a sense of excitement? After all, your gut reaction can be a powerful guide in the decision-making process.
Best 15 Maryland Outdoor Wedding Venues
Now it’s time to dive in to our list of the best Maryland outdoor wedding venues!
Strong Mansion: Garden Wedding Venues in Maryland
Nestled in the woods of Sugarloaf Mountain just outside of Frederick, Maryland stands Strong Mansion. Of Maryland outdoor wedding venues, this location blends natural beauty with historic charm. Finding a venue with a beautiful getting ready space in addition to the wedding space is quite a welcomed bonus. While the garden landscaping and surrounding woods create a nature scene, the stone patio provides beautiful photo opportunities. For your ceremony, guests gather on the side of a tranquil pond while you two stand on picturesque stone stairs. Then, for your reception, the provided tent keeps your guests comfortable while still enjoying the outdoors. Strong Mansion & its garden grounds are a great option for a nature-centered, relaxed outdoor wedding.

The next location on our list, Historic London Town and Gardens, also hosts a beautiful outdoor ceremony.
London Town and Gardens: Historic Maryland Outdoor Wedding Venues
Similar to Strong Mansion, Historic London Town and Gardens offers great garden spaces with a touch of history. Unlike Strong Mansion, however, London Town’s ceremony space has beautiful waterfront views. From the charming brick pathways to the vibrant blooms, each element adds to the venue’s nature-centered atmosphere.
One choice of Maryland outdoor wedding venues, London Town, offers a blank canvas. To kick off the day, your ceremony takes place in the open lawn with Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay behind you. Then, guests can walk the garden trails sipping cocktails while you mingle and enjoy the fresh air. The reception space includes a fixed tent with open sides (sides are optional in case of inclement weather). And of course, you’ll want to land on the dock at sunset for beautiful photo opportunities. In addition to the dock on the water, photo locations include the winding gardens & the historic buildings with great textures.

Kirkland Manor: Maryland Waterfront Wedding Venue
As you tour outdoor wedding properties on the Eastern Shore, add Kirkland Manor to your list! This historic estate, with its stately presence and meticulously maintained grounds, exudes an air of grandeur. You’ll also have a tented reception (may I suggest a sailcloth tent?) which provides panoramic views of the bay during the evening’s activities. From my experience, guests love to walk out to the water during dinner and dancing and take photos.
Similar to Great Oak Manor, Kirkland Manor’s vast shoreline provides beautiful, sweeping views of the Chesapeake Bay. While Great Oak has a beautiful beach for sunset photo opportunities, Kirkland has a dock with an arched doorway structure. This is a great spot to enjoy the evening glow and take some amazing photos.

Rawlings Conservatory: Greenhouse Wedding Venue
As we come back over the Bay Bridge, the next stop on the Maryland outdoor wedding venues journey is in Baltimore at Rawlings Conservatory. While the other options on our list are more wooded, Rawlings is a greenhouse that brings the outdoors in. Nestled in Druid Hill park, downtown, this impressive glasshouse houses a diverse collection of plants from around the world. From tropical palms to delicate orchids, the conservatory offers a unique backdrop that will captivate your guests.
For both intimate or larger weddings, Rawlings can create a gorgeous setting for your day. While intimate weddings can fit inside, larger weddings will need a tented reception set up right outside the conservatory.
Gramercy Mansion: Charming Wedding Venue in Maryland
If you fell in love with the greenhouse idea, Gramercy Mansion might be a great option for your outdoor wedding in Maryland. While it’s not a full conservatory, Gramercy’s indoor reception has a bistro greenhouse feel. Nestled on 45 acres of countryside, Gramercy Mansion offers a romantic and intimate atmosphere for your wedding day. The mansion itself features Tudor-style architecture and interior details. Great photo opportunities, of course.
The room can accommodate up to 200 guests, allowing for a spacious and comfortable experience. Whether you envision a formal dinner or a cocktail reception, the Gramercy staff will help bring your vision to life. Gramercy Mansion also offers accommodations for you, your family, your wedding party, and/or your guests. Additionally, there are three private cottages on the property, offering seclusion and privacy for a more intimate setting.

Nestled in the Caves Valley, Irvine Nature Center offers a wonderful open nature setting for an unforgettable outdoor wedding. Whether you envision saying your vows in a canopy of trees or a field, this venue provides a serene backdrop.
Unlike some of our other options on this list, this outdoor venue comes at a more affordable price. Keep in mind, that means there may be more to DIY!

Located in Howard County, the Conservancy is a great choice for couples seeking a nature-inspired wedding setting. This venue offers multiple spaces to exchange your vows and host your reception. If you envision your ceremony with the sounds of nature on an affordable budget, this might be the venue for you!
Similar to the last venue, the Howard County Conservancy is committed to the environment and promoting sustainability. As you celebrate your love, you can also feel good knowing that your wedding is contributing to conservation efforts.
Now, let’s venture further across Maryland to continue your search for the perfect outdoor wedding venue!
Dulany’s Overlook: Maryland Wedding Venue with Rolling Hills
Next, we’ll travel West to Frederick, Maryland to Dulany’s Overlook. This property & the next are a little more rustic than the others so far. Not only does this 170-acre farm have a beautiful restored wooden barn, but it also has panoramic rolling hill vistas. The open-air design of the barn seamlessly transitions the indoor and outdoor spaces.
This venue also has an elegant bridal suite, a huge man cave downstairs, and two outdoor ceremony options. You can choose between the formal rose garden or the laid back woodland area for your nuptials. Then, regardless of weather, your cocktail hour takes place on the lower barn level (which is open to the outdoors with room for patio games!). When it’s time for your reception, the big red barn creates a beautiful weathered wood backdrop for your toasts & dancing. Unlike other barns, this venue has beautiful natural light, which is a *huge win* for photography.

Walkers Overlook
Let’s continue our tour of Maryland outdoor wedding venues to Walker’s Overlook, Dulany’s sister venue. Walker’s Overlook is also categorized by its beautiful rolling hill view that creates a warm and golden glow during sunset. Located in Frederick County, this beautiful venue has 225 acres of lush greenery, gardens, and scenic views.
If you prefer an indoor reception or want to extend the celebration into the evening, Walkers Overlook has you covered. The venue features a rustic barn that can accommodate your guests in a cozy atmosphere, complete with twinkling lights. With its weathered wooden beams and warm ambiance, the barn exudes charm and character.
As you and your loved ones celebrate under the starry sky, you’ll create memories that will last a lifetime.
Thorpewood: Mountain Wedding Ceremony & Reception
Just 30 minutes north of Dulany’s & Walker’s Overlooks, Thorpewood is one of my favorite Maryland outdoor wedding venues. Nestled in the Catoctin Mountains, Thorpewood offers a secluded oasis of wild beauty and tranquility.
Eight diverse outdoor options are available for your ceremony including the Pine Cathedral, pavilion, stone bridge, and more. Surrounded by trees with rustic benches and chairs for up to 130 people, the Pine Cathedral is my favorite. Or for an indoor ceremony, the Lodge creates an intimate and inviting setting with its majestic fireplace and cozy ambiance.
Quiet Waters Park: Affordable Annapolis Wedding Venue
Quiet Waters Park, located in Annapolis, is the next addition to our list of Maryland outdoor wedding venues.
Located in the heart of Anne Arundel County, Quiet Waters Park offers a quite beautiful setting for your wedding. Similar to Irvine Nature Center and Howard County Conservancy, this state park is another great affordable option. This wedding venue boasts 340 acres of nature, making it an ideal location for outdoorsy couples.
The visitor’s center has a charming Victorian-style design with a balcony decorated with hanging ferns. The Blue Heron Center has vaulted ceilings and large windows to bring the outdoors in. Between the visitor center and the Blue Heron center is a lovely landscaped garden, which is great for photos!
Brookside Gardens: Garden Outdoor Venue in Maryland
To continue the theme of affordable state parks & gardens, Brookside Gardens is next on our list of Maryland outdoor wedding venues. Tucked away like a hidden gem, this Maryland venue provides a beautiful nature backdrop. Similar to our greenhouse venues above, Brookside also has two conservatories that house seasonal and exotic plants.
In addition to its natural beauty, this park also offers versatile spaces that accommodate both intimate and larger weddings. While there are several outdoor ceremony options, their featured wedding space is the Japanese Tea House Pavilion.
Springfield Manor: Countryside Wedding Venue in Maryland
As we near the end of our list of Maryland outdoor wedding venues, we won’t forget to include Springfield Manor Winery & Distillery. Not only does this venue have 130 acres of scenic farmland, it also has mountain views. In addition, their lavender fields bloom twice a year! While they have two reception spaces, the barn is my favorite, with more texture and interest than the white ballroom.
Not only does Springfield Manor have a beautiful outdoor setting, it also offers overnight accommodations and a bridal & cigar lounge. With its serene countryside setting and attention to detail, Springfield Manor is sure to make your wedding day beautiful.

Terrain at Styers: Greenhouse Boho Outdoor Wedding Venue
While this venue is technically in Pennsylvania, I couldn’t help but include Terrain in my top Maryland outdoor wedding venues. Terrain lands in the top of my list for many reasons. A plant nursery, Terrain at Styer’s invites connection to nature & community. As a matter of fact, every wedding I’ve photographed here fills me with inspiration, a sense of tranquility, and delicious seasonal food. Pretty great, right?
Not only is their outdoor space great, but in cooler weather the ceremony can be held in their beautiful greenhouse which is tastefully filled with lush plants, overhead roping, & lanterns. As day transitions to night, string lights invite romance while the crackling fire provides snuggling & s’more opportunities. Following cocktail hour, guests enter the Garden Shed for a charming and modern-rustic reception. In short, Terrain is gorgeous.
